Training & Research

Training

The practice has long been involved in the training of doctors and medical students to become GPs. This process takes many years as a medical student and many more as a qualified doctor.

The practice provides an environment for such trainees to gain experience in general practice right through to becoming fully fledged independent GPs.

You may be offered an appointment with one of our ‘registrar‘ doctors, who typically have several years’ experience in hospitals, before they come to learn how it is done in general practice.

In order to help develop their skills further, you may be asked to complete a “patient satisfaction questionnaire”, or be videoed during the consultation. You will always be asked for consent beforehand and never be in view during examinations.

Each doctor-in-training will be closely supervised by our experienced trainers, Dr Ashok Aggarwal, Dr Matthew Robinson and Dr Safian Younas and have a structured programme of development set down by The Royal College of General Practitioners.

If you ever have any constructive criticism we would be very happy to hear it.

As a training practice we feel privileged to have such a wealth of doctor talent coming into the practice from hospitals and believe it has only ever improved the service we offer.

You may also have learners such as medical students observing consultations or indeed asking if they can speak to you. This is extremely valuable for their learning and we are always grateful for your support, however you can decline this at any point.

Research

Carrying out high-quality research helps us to improve NHS care and find better treatments.
This GP practice is involved in research, helping to improve our patients’ lives.
You might be asked to take part in a research study. Alternatively, ask your doctor, nurse or healthcare professional if there’s a study you could take part in.
